Analytics

If you allow analytics, this site loads Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to help me understand visits and page use. Google may receive information such as the pages you view, browser and device details, an approximate location, and your IP address. Analytics cookies may be set. I do not use this site’s tag manager for advertising or personalisation.

Google Analytics does not load before you agree. On visits after you reject analytics, this site does not load it or send analytics data to Google. Google’s privacy policy explains how Google handles the data it receives.

If you allow analytics, I also measure when the wave invitation is visible and when a wave is confirmed, along with the page where it happened. These events help me understand which writing prompts interaction. The random key used to count your wave is not sent to Google Analytics.

Your choice

The site saves your choice in your browser’s local storage for up to 180 days. You can reopen the choice using “Analytics settings” in the footer. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics loads and clears this site’s first-party Google Analytics cookies. It cannot undo data already sent to Google. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice may not persist across visits.

The light or dark theme you choose is also saved in local storage. It is not used for analytics.

Leaving a wave

You can leave a wave without providing a name or message, whether or not you allow analytics. Cloudflare counts waves by India calendar day (Asia/Kolkata, UTC+05:30). It stores that day, a hashed version of a randomly generated browser key, and the time the wave was first accepted. This lets the same browser count once each day while making retries safe. I do not store your IP address, location, or browser details with the wave. Cloudflare may process technical request information to limit automated abuse.

Your browser saves the random key, whether your wave was accepted, and the last day it was counted in local storage. This stays until you clear it. Clearing it, changing browsers, or using another device can allow another wave, so the public daily total counts waves from browsers rather than unique people. Repeating the wave in the same browser on the same day does not add to the total. The shared daily records do not currently have an automatic deletion schedule.

Messages you send

If you use the contact form, I store the name, email address, and message you provide in a Cloudflare database. I use Resend to email a copy to my inbox so I can respond. Resend’s privacy policy explains how it handles data for its service. I do not use contact messages for marketing. Messages in my database currently have no automatic deletion schedule; they remain until I delete them. You can ask me to remove yours.

You can choose to keep a copy of a submitted message in this browser. That copy includes the name, email address, message, and submission time. It is stored locally on this device, not synced to your other devices, and remains until you delete it or clear browser storage. Anyone with access to this browser may be able to read it, so avoid this option on shared devices. Deleting a browser copy does not delete the message I received; you can ask me to remove that separately.

The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check submissions for automated abuse. This check is separate from the optional analytics choice. Cloudflare processes technical information needed for verification; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Hosting

Cloudflare hosts this website and processes requests needed to deliver it. Like other hosting providers, it may process technical request information, including IP addresses, for security and operations. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.
